Apogee Quantum (PAR) Sensors & Meters

For measurement of Photosynthetically Active Radiation

Quantum Sensors measure radiation in the frequencies used by plants. Photosynthesis is largely driven by the number of photons between these wavelengths, so this radiation is called the Photosynthetic Photon Flux (PPF) and is measured in µmol m-2 s-1 (micromoles of photons per square meter per second). A quantum is the energy carried by a photon so this is a quantum sensor.

There are a range of models available from Apogee calibrated for sunlight or electric light, with self powered or amplified voltage output options. Line sensors incorporate a number of sensors mounted in a single bar and provide a spatial average over the sensing area.

Standard Quantum Sensors - SQ-110 (sun) & SQ-120 (electric)

Specify calibration for sunlight or electric light. This basic quantum light sensor with cosine-corrected head has a domed diffusion disk and head for improved self-cleaning characteristics and long-term stability. Comes with 3 meters of shielded, twisted-pair wire ending in pigtail leads. Calibrated with an internal potentiometer to provide a fixed output of 0.2 mV per µmol m-2 s-1. Can be mounted to the leveling plate with internal 10 x 32 threaded insert. This sensor approximates the radiation between 400 and 700 nanometers, which are the most important wavelengths for plant growth.

Specifications:

  • Sensitivity: Calibrated to exactly 5.00 µmol m-2 s-1 per mV
  • Operating Environment: -40 to 55 degress; 0 to 100% humidity. Designed for continuous outdoor use. Can be submerged underwater.
  • Output: Approx. 0.2 mV per µmol m-2 s-1 (A unique multiplier to convert the mV signal to desired units is provided with each sensor.
  • Materials: Anodized aluminum with acrylic lens
  • Dimensions: 2.4 cm diameter, 2.75 cm high
  • Mass: 70 g (with 3 meters of lead wire)
  • Cable: 3 meters of shielded, twisted pair wire with Santoprene casing, ending in pigtail leads.
  • Range: 0 to 4000 µmol m-2 s-1 (full sunlight: 2000 µmol m-2 s-1 )

The Quantum Sensor is designed for use with a data acquisition system and provides a mV output so no power is required to use it.

Amplified Quantum Sensors - SQ-212 & SQ-222 (0-2.5V); SQ-215 & SQ-225 (0-5V)

These sensors have the same performance as the standard sensor, but with an amplified signal. Choose either 0 to 2.5 V or 0 to 5 V output and sunlight (SQ-21x) or electric lamp (SQ-22x) calibration.

Line Quantum Sensors - SQ-3xx

Apogee Line Quantum Sensors provide a spatial average of quantum light over the sensing area. Includes 3 meters of lead wire with pigtail leads. There are three standard units from which to choose: 3 sensors mounted in a 50 cm bar, 6 sensors mounted in a 50 cm bar and 10 sensors mounted in a 70 cm bar. These can also be selected with either sunlight or electric light calibration

Meters - MQ-100, MQ-200, MQ-30x

Quantum Meters are also available with either an integral sensor, or seperate sensor on cable. These come with a calibration switch to enable them to be used in both sunlight and electric light. They are also available for line quantum sensors.

 

A leveling base AL-100 is required for mounting single light sensors.
