The CA Traffic Bicycle Recorder has been developed at the request of the traffic industry in an effort to collect reliable bicycle count data. Using a variation on the inductive loop it is possible to obtain directional count from the profiling loop detector and record data in the two channel Junior Recorder. Alternatively, if the installation is in a bus lane or on the open road, bicycles can be detected and counted in the first channel with all other vehicles being counted in the second channel.

The recorder is also capable of recognising two bicycles being ridden side by side. Operation has been confirmed with Aluminium and Steel framed bicycles.

Supermarket trolleys, prams and buggies can also be recognised by the system and excluded from the count.

The bicycle detector is also available on a separate detector card that is compatible with the CA Loop Recorder and Loop Classifier. This allows bicycle detection integration with an existing traffic count and classification sites.

In this format the bicycle monitoring site can be permanently powered by a solar panel. As with all Loop recorders and SLC's, telemetry options are available allowing the download of data remotely via GSM modem.
