There have been some developments in regards to the STIL Frost Alarm (STIL Frost Alert). Below are some frequently asked questions and answers.
Frost Alarm News
Can I buy a new Frost Alarm?
Yes. We have been able to source some second hand phones that will work in the Frost Alarm on the Vodafone 021 network. At this time, Telecom 027 phones are not available as a standard option.
My SIM card has expired. What can I do?
If your SIM card has expired and you wish to continue using the alarm, you will need to return the unit to us and we will fit a replacement phone and 3G SIM card that will allow the alarm to reconnect to the network. Your alarm will have a new phone number. 3G SIM cards will not work in your alarm with the existing phone.
I have a 025 (Telecom) phone in my alarm. What can I do?
If you wish to continue using the alarm and you have 021 (Vodafone) coverage, you will need to return it to us and we will fit a 021 phone which will enable the alarm to work as it did before the 025 network was switched off.
Please note that at the time of writing, there is no Telecom 027 option available.
What will the retrofit cost?
The cost for a replacement phone for 021 is $220 (including GST & freight within New Zealand). This covers the cost of the new phone; installation, SIM card, four alkaline C cell batteries and $20 of prepay air time.
Isn't there a replacement product on the way?
Yes. However, production and design delays have pushed back the delivery of the new product until autumn 2008.
Will the new phone still be on prepaid?
Yes. This means that the day to day operation of the Frost Alarm will continue to have no cost beyond batteries once a season. However, if the user answers the incoming alarm call, your prepay balance will decrease.
Please remember to keep you SIM card active, you need to top up by at least $20 within any 12 month period. If you let your account go for longer than 12 months without the minimum top up, Vodafone assumes your account is inactive. Subsequently, they cancel your account and existing balance, and recycle your mobile number for someone else to use. Please follow this link to view the several of ways of topping up .......
