Apogee's new research-grade Red - Far-red and unique PAR-FAR sensors are excellent, cost-effective tools for measuring the output of plant lights for photobiology and plant morphogenic studies.
Both sensors have outputs to calculate critical ratios for plant studies and growing operations. They are suitable for all growing enviroments including under LED lights.
PAR-FAR
In addition to PPFD, red and far-red wavelengths are of particular interest because they influence photosynthetic and morphogenic activity. Phytochrome pigments sensitive to varying ratios of red and far-red light provide information to the plant about its light environment and, therefore, its optimal growth patterns. Increasing the fraction of red light indicates less shading and generally results in more conservative vertical growth patterns; increasing the far-red fraction indicates more shading and results in more aggressive vertical growth patterns.
Spectral response: 389 to 692 nm ± 5 nm (PAR) and 702 to 761 nm ± 5 nm (Far-red)

Red - far-red sensors are designed to approximate phytochrome spectral sensitivity. Quantifying the amount of red and far-red light incident on the sensor is important in determining the red / far-red ratio (red / far-red) and the far-red fraction (far-red / red + far-red).
