TCAV Averaging Soil Thermocouple Probe

Average soil temperature across 4 x thermocouples. Typically used in heat flux studies.

The TCAV-L typically provides the average temperature of the top 6 to 8 centimeters of soil. The probe parallels four type E thermocouples together into one, 24-gauge wire. Each member of a thermocouple pair is buried at a different depth. The two pairs are separated at a distance of up to 1 meter.

Features

  • Type E thermocouple (chromel-constantan) probe
  • Averages two soil temperature measurements within small vertical/horizontal area
  • 2 x 2 thermocouple configuration (4 junctions total)
  • Typically used in conjunction with soil heat flux plate
